PLAY YOUR WAY TO WIMBLEDON NATIONAL FINALS 2023
Dorset winners Aidan Hewitt (14U boys singles), Daniella (14U girls singles) and Alexander Mellon-Davies and Thomas Windsor (18U boys doubles) enjoyed a fantastic experience at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in this year’s Play Your Way to Wimbledon National Finals. It was the largest event in the event’s history due to the additional categories which include an adults doubles pathway, visually impaired, wheelchair and learning disability tennis.
All competitors were invited to immerse themselves in the true Wimbledon experience, competing in white match kit, the opportunity to utilise player facilities and to tour the historic Grounds and Museum during the week.
Aidan, Daniella, Alexander and Thomas all secured their place in the National Finals by winning their event in the PYWTW Dorset County Finals.
Thomas Windsor said of his time at Wimbledon :
‘The experience was amazing. Despite only playing on grass a few times, I could immediately feel the difference between the Wimbledon grass and any other I had played on. It was so lovely. It was extremely surreal just being there and walking the same corridors as some of the elite. Even being able to go in the players’ restaurant was amazing, just wondering who had dined there. Everything was so immaculate and getting a win there is something to cherish forever. Seeing everyone in white and following the tradition was incredible, just walking around was so cool.’
Congratulations to all.
2023 AREA & COUNTY FINALS
The Play Your Way To Wimbledon 18U Boys Doubles Area Finals (Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset) took place at Bournemouth Gardens over a wonderful, sunny weekend (24th June).
Plenty of excellent play throughout the day saw two Dorset teams winning through to the final beating teams from Wiltshire, Alex and Thomas, and Will and Finley. The Final saw Alex and Thomas take the first set, 6 games to 3. Will and Finley weren’t willing to give up easily and raised their game in the second set, winning it convincingly 6-2. This brought the match to a decisive match tie-break with Alex and Thomas taking the win, 10-7.
Their victory secures them a place in the National Finals at Wimbledon in August where they will have the opportunity to compete against other top players from across the country.
The 14U Singles County Finals took place in very challenging windy conditions at East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club on 16th July with 5 girls and 12 boys from across Dorset competing for a place in the National Finals.
CONGRATULATIONS to winners Daniella and Aidan who were both number 1 seeds in their event.
Good luck to all in the National Finals at Wimbledon, 6th to 12th August.
