Richard Henshaw was recently honoured with the Meritorious Service Award at Queen’s Club, recognising his outstanding contributions to tennis in Britain. Nominated by Dorset, Richard has been involved in tennis as both a player and volunteer for over 40 years. He played county-level tennis in his youth and after playing and volunteering at clubs in Berkshire and Somerset, he settled in Christchurch in 1996 when he joined Southbourne Tennis Club.
Richard held several key roles, including Chair of Southbourne Tennis Club for 5 years before taking on the role of Honorary Secretary of Dorset LTA – 2002–2012, LTA Councillor, 2005–2019, and Dorset County Chair from 2011, stepping down in 2024. Nationally, he chaired the LTA Facilities Committee during his time as Councillor.
Richard has remained on Dorset’s Participation Committee, an area close to his heart.
