Dorset 10U Boys & Girls County Cup Teams win through to National Finals

Congratulations to our 10U Boys and Girls Teams who both won their qualifying rounds to go through to the National Finals in Sunderland, 7th to 9th June.

The girls competed locally at East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club while the boys travelled to Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset with both teams facing opposition from Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire.

10U Boys

Dorset vs Cornwall

Will Green playing at 3, kick started this years County Cup experience for Dorset 10’s boys against Cornwall’s Freddie Millard. Will produced a sublime performance of penetrating hitting and consistency to get the team off to the best possible start with a 4-0 4-0 win.

Number 2 Tom Lloyd, slugged it out against Archie Stirling and was more clinical in the in key moments from deuce and was twice able to turn games around from 15:40 down to seal a 4-2 4-0 victory. Tom’s win claimed the tie as our number one player Aidan Hewitt, proved too solid against the big hitting Reece Seddon 4-0 4-0 before Tom had finished.

Dorset vs Somerset

Will once again gave Dorset an early lead winning 4-2 4-0 vs Peter Mcgiven. Aidan cruised through again winning 4-1 4-1 against Matthew Harris whilst Tom battled to a win against the flashy Zane Assai.

Seth Bamlet proved his worth with two dominant performances in the two doubles matches to clinch the ties 4-0.

Day Two

Semi final Vs Avon

Tom demonstrated great resilience to fight back from a set down to force a match tiebreak only to come up short against Daniel Mora.

Will led against Fergus Yard by a set and 2-1 before fading to succumb to a 5-10 match tiebreak loss.

Aidan restored hope in the tie to go into the doubles 1-2 down. A patient display of controlled hitting against big hitting  Arthur King 4-2 4-2.

Tom & Aiden showed maturity and calm to claim a 4-2 5-4 win against King & Yard forcing the shootout.

With momentum behind them, Tom & Aiden continued to show poise winning the vital shootout 10-4 to progress to the final and overturn the tie from two matches down to win 3-2.

Final Dorset Vs Cornwall

Cornwall posted arguably the biggest upset at this stage of the event by beating Devon in the other semi finals who topped the other box on day one to set up a rematch with Dorset. After prevailing 4-0 the previous day against Cornwall, confidence was high but with complacency at the back of our minds we wanted to go into the match giving 100%.

Tom produced his most devastating performance of the weekend demolishing Cornwall’s number one Archie Sterling 4-0 4-0.

With Tom’s match finishing early, Will & Aidan closed out their matches in straight sets to claim a resounding 3-0 win over Cornwall and book a place in the last 8 counties at the national finals in Sunderland in two weeks time.

Thanks and congratulations to Captains Phil Loose and Shane Deacon.

Girls report to follow.
