Michael Evans Tennis Initiative

Michael Evans, a respected coach from Dorset who passed away in 2018, left a bequest to Dorset LTA to go towards the advancement of girl’s tennis in Dorset.

An initiative was set up for coaches to go into local schools to run taster coaching sessions for Year 7 girls who don’t normally play tennis culminating in a tournament at the coach’s club. The winners and runners-up of the club tournaments went through to a competition held at East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club with players from Twynham School, Highcliffe School and Wey Valley School competing for the Michael Evans Trophy. Isabel from Twynham School lifted the trophy which was presented by Meg Spencer Wood, neice of Michael Evans. She also won a year’s members to a club of her choice. The Doubles event was won by Isabel and Charlotte (both from Twynham School).

The tournament will be an annual event which it is anticipated will grow year on year. Any schools interested in taking part are invited to contact the County Office, info@dorsetlta.co.uk.
