Congratulations to Dorset’s 18U girls, County Cup winners and promotion to Division 2. The girls travelled to Wrexham where they faced opposition from Cambridgeshire, North of Scotland and North Wales.
Proud Captain Emma Bennett has the following report of the road to victory :-
This year our team consisted of Erin Richardson, Annie Lammas, Nat Cater, Aysha Roocroft, Abbie Tyler, Emma Dawson, Jess Holloway and Sophia Hurrion. All of these girls played a vital role in making the weekend a success and fun!
First day we came up against Cambridgeshire who had similar rankings and players to us. Singles proved to be an interesting rollercoaster ride, being up in singles with some very tough battles – including Lammas the three set queen! 3-3 all going in to the final round, big wins from Roocroft/ Tyler at one to take us to 4-4. Then big come back from Lammas and Holloway to win 10-8 in the breaker.
Day two we faced North of Scotland who had a close loss the previous day to North Wales. After a nervous start, we raced ahead to 4-0 up and only looking for one more win. Huge shout out to Erin Richardson for flying through 5 countries to get to us on Saturday afternoon. Doubles we were too strong and won overall 8-1!
Promotion Match Day! Playing Erin at one meant that everyone moved down a position making us stronger than previous days. Everyone worked incredibly hard throughout the day, really wanting to win for the team. 4-2 up after the singles, North Wales had to gamble and split their top pair. We managed to win pair 3 of Aysha and Sophia, after that we dominated and won overall 7-2.
Super proud Captain, from the day we arrived to the minute I left them. Positive attitude and all prepared to work for the team, whether that is on the court or from the bench. Thanks to Marsha for being Vice Capt.
