Shane Deacon, 11U County Coach and 11U Performance Manager at West Hants, organised a Mixed Doubles tournament to raise funds for the NHS for 3 hospitals ICUs in Dorset – Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and Bournemouth Hospital. Shane decided he wanted to ‘do his bit’ for the NHS after his daughter asked him if she could buy a box of chocolates for the Ambulance crew who are stationed near their house, during lockdown. Shane’s wife also works for the NHS. The tournament was a fun way of raising money and getting players on court for some fun competition.
The tournament was held at The West Hants Club who supported the event by kindly giving the use of the courts for free.
Events took place throughout the day for 10U, 12U, 16U and adults for players involved in county training/play for the county.
An amazing £1703.14 was raised through entry fees and the sale of raffle tickets for which a number of local businesses kindly donated prizes. Thank you to Michael Mitchell, The Boathouse, Hot Rocks, The West Hants Club, Red Carpet Hairdressing, Simon Lesser/Bourne Fit, The Watersports Academy and Wilson.
Dorset LTA supported the event providing balls and prizes and generously donated £1000 giving a total of £2703.14 raised.
