Our O35 county teams were recently in action at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne for County Cup.
Dorset Ladies competed in Group 5b.
The Team : Anna Sharp, Chrissie Downes, Emma Magson, Ros Topple, Liz Fox, Sarah Skidmore, captained by Karen Adams.
Day 1 – the team enjoyed the privilege of playing on Centre Court v North Wales – a winning start to the weekend, 3-2 Dorset
Day 2 – up against Oxfordshire, rain delays didn’t affect the team spirit with Dorset securing a 4-1 win setting them up for a promotion play-off on the final day.
Day 3 – v East of Scotland. A day of challenging weather with high winds and rain impacted play. Persistent rain led to just one round being played resulting in Dorset losing 2-1 and finishing second in their group just missing out on promotion.
Shoutout to Emma, Ros & Liz for a perfect 100% weekend! Incredible team spirit, grit & determination from all the players – the team will be back even stronger next year!
Our men’s team in Group 3b, delivered a fantastic performance, finishing 2nd in their group and narrowly missing out on promotion.
Day 1 – a tough start to the weekend losing 3-2 against a strong North Wales side.
Day 2 – great resilience from the team to bounce back with a 3-2 win over North of Scotland.
Day 3 – the team carried the winning momentum into the final day, securing another hard-fought 32 victory over Norfolk to close the weekend on a high.
Captain Rich Irwin led by example with a flawless record winning all six of his matches. Shout out to Tim Hewitt who made the journey from America to represent Dorset and impressed with five wins out of six. Other valuable contributions came from Jack Hartman who flew in from Scotland as well as Darren Loose and Kevin Willemse in the doubles.
The team’s commitment and fighting spirit throughout the event highlighted the strength of Dorset tennis at this level.
